Is China poised to attack the Philippines?

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

The Kagitingan Reef, internationally called the Fiery Cross Reef, is now occupied by China and that bully country has installed a number of rocket launchers there pointed at the direction of the Philippines. This was being done all the while when President Duterte was making a state visit to Beijing. This reminds us of history when the Prime Minister of Japan visited the White House and met with the US President, a few hours thereafter Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese Imperial Army, killing thousands of soldiers and civilians, destroying the US military installations in the Pacific and crippling the US capability for four years.

With a friend like China, we really do not need any enemy to attack and invade us. China has far superior military strength, and we are just a tiny particle vis-à-vis a gargantuan superpower like the Peoples' Republic of China. That is why, notwithstanding the president's love lost in relation to the Americans and the EU, we need the support of the US and NATO. Only America, in cooperation with Japan and South Korea in the north, and Australia and New Zealand in the south, can repel any aggressive and preemptive attack by China against the Philippines. We simply do not have the wherewithal to survive a China attack.

China has a population of 1.4 billion people, the US has 325 million, and we have only 107 million, less the 12 million who are spread in 200 other countries. China has an available manpower for war numbering 750 million, the US 150 million, and we have 56 million. Every year 20 million Chinese reach military age, while the US has only 4.3 million, and we have less than a million. Those active in the military are 2.4 million in China, 1.5 million in the US, and only 220,000 in our country. China has a reserve military force of another 2.4 million, while the US has 1.2M, and the Philippines has 250,000. The Chinese annual military budget is no less than 165 trillion dollars, while the US has 587 billion, and we have barely 3 billion.

China has 1,400 fighter aircraft, the US has more at 2,800, and the Philippines has 149. China has 6,000 attack tanks, the US has more at 8,500, while the Philippines has 45. If and when China attacks the Philippines, how many hours can the Philippines stand its ground? But with the aid of the US, there is a very strong possibility that there shall be a balanced economy of power, more or less. We do not want war. It is bound to end in a mass slaughter of our people. It shall pulverize our infrastructures and practically destroy our economy. We hate wars, but what is China doing in the Kagitingan Reef? China should be forthright to us. Is it our friend or our enemy? We cannot continue with the good cop/bad cop tactics against us. If it is not really our friend, so it is our enemy. In that case, we need the US on our side.
