Phinma/SWU seeks to tighten grip of solo second spot
CEBU, Philippines - Phinma/Southwestern University Cobras will try to keep their hold of the second spot when they battle My Led Opto/Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats in the 8th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner's Cup today at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cobras and the Wildcats will clash head-on in the main match at 7 p.m., right after the 5:15 p.m. duel between Mighty Sports/University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars and Highlands Corned Beef/University of Cebu Webmasters.
The Cobras are coming off a 78-68 spanking of the Webmasters that installed them at solo second place with a 3-1 win-loss record behind the 5-0 Worthy/University of the Visayas Green Lancers.
Aside from their old reliables in back-to-back CESAFI MVP Mark Jayven Tallo, Bernie Bregondo, Mark Racho, Anton Pardo and Giovannie Luz, the Cobras will also count on their explosive rookie Shaquille Imperial who has shown a lot of promise after scoring a game-high tying 20 points in their most latest victory against the Webmasters.
The Wildcats, on the other hand, will bank on the likes of Rey Navarro, Steven Bucao, Karl Lucena, Marlo Pono, Frederick Brigoli and Wilkin Sanchez as they try to improve their 1-3 record.
In the opener, the Jaguars and the Webmasters will try to break the 2-2 tie that binds them as they take on each other.
The Jaguars will heavily depend on Jaybee Mantilla, RJ Dinolan, Ricky Peromingan, Nelvin Navarra and Miguel Gastador, while the Webmasters will rely on Gileant Delator, Garciano Puerto and Filveon Culango among others. (FREEMAN)
