Poblacion Occidental eases through midget division semis in Alegado Cup
CEBU, Philippines — John Melo Beltran fired 23 points and Steven Beltran added 21 as Poblacion Occidental pummeled Tugbongan, 90-73, to march into the midget division semifinals of the 7th Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball Cup in Consolacion.
Godfrey Sabanal chipped in 14 markers for Poblacion Occidental, which also earned twice-to-beat advantage going into the round of four for topping Bracket A. Poblacion Occidental had a slow start resulting to an early 19-23 deficit, but bounced back with aplomb in the second quarter to seize the upper hand at halftime, 46-44, for good.
Poblacion Occidental then whipped a furious offensive storm in the final half to dump Tugbongan by 17 points at the final buzzer.
Matt Estrada and Jupit Bandiala connived for 23 points in a losing effort for Tugbongan.
On the other hand, Jugan kept is semifinal hopes alive after crushing Casili, 97-71, in the same manner with Nangka after gunning down Poblacion Occidental, 69-58, in the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category A.
Raymond Arena paced Jugan with 33 points, while Ewin Brigole and Venhur Villamor banged in 26 points combined, while Paul Iverson Cullango tospcored for Nangka with 33 points followed by Romar Ponce with 15 markers.
In the other knockout games under the SK Juniors Category A, Dwight Gonzaga and Rey Gonzaga, Jr. had 38 points in between them as Casili outlasted Jugan 67-55, while John Eric Teleron unloaded 26 points and John Eduard Teleron tossed in 22 markers to power Danglag past Tugbongan, 90-85. (FREEMAN)
