CEC, UC juniors eye semis berths

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Eastern College Dragons and the University of Cebu Junior Webmasters gun for semifinal tickets when they take on separate foes in the quarterfinal playoffs of the 16th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation. Inc. men's basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Dragons are seeking a repeat performance over the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars in the 1 p.m. opener, while the Junior Webmasters hope to do the same against the Don Bosco Technology Center Greywolves in their 2:30 p.m. duel.

The Dragons and the Junior Webmasters both enjoy twice-to-beat advantage for claiming the no.3 and no.4 spots after the elimination round.

CEC, UC and DBTC actually finished the classification stage with identical 6-3 win-loss records, but the Dragons emerged as the no.3 qualifier having beaten both the Junior Webmasters and the Greywolves.

   The Junior Webmasters, on the other hand, took the No.4 spot by virtue of a simple tie over the Greywolves.

If victorious, CEC and UC will proceed into the semifinals together with three-time defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles and the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers.— EBV (FREEMAN)
