Daanbantayan to launch Barangay Bagsakan Center

-

CEBU, Philippines – The Department of Agriculture is set to launch tomorrow the Barangay Bagsakan Center Project in barangay Talisay, Daanbantayan, Cebu.

DA Assistant Secretary Salvador Salacup is set to grace the affair together with some regional and provincial agriculture officials.

People’s organizations from other barangays will also join and would be given the chance to display their agricultural products, including processed foods.

The project was funded by a loan from the National Agri-Business Corporation (Nabcor) in the amount of P150,000 while the DA regional office provided equipment and facilities for the livelihood project also equivalent to P150,000.

Cadena de Amor Rural Improvement Club, a group of women in barangay Talisay, is the recipient of the said project.

Cadena de Amor RIC was the 1999 national grand price winner for its Outstanding Livelihood Enhancement for Agricultural Development (LEAD) Project in swine breeding. The group received P250,000 from DA during an awarding ceremony in Manila during the time of former President Joseph Estrada.

This prompted Nabcor to offer a loan to Cadena de Amor RIC to further expand its livelihood projects.

Barangay Talisay is one of the rich fishing villages in Daanbantayan and housewives of fishermen are given an opportunity to develop their own livelihood to augment their family income through the RIC.

The project is also implemented in cooperation with the local government unit of Daanbantayan. — Gregg M. Rubio/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
