Wounded policeman gets aid from Mandaue mayor

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Police Officer 3 David Naraja Jr., the policeman who was wounded in a police operation, received financial assistance from Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing yesterday morning.

Naraja sustained a gunshot wound shot in the left side of his face during a police operation against murder suspect Jessie Largo in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, last Monday afternoon.

Largo, was the main suspect in the killing of Jon Ronli Calizar, the son of Public Information Agency employee Ferliza Contratista.

Monich Manatad, Quisumbing's secretary, who delivered the assistance to Naraja in Cebu Doctors Hospital, said that the reward came from the pocket of Mayor Quisumbing, and not from the city government.

"Kinasing-kasing g’yud ni ang paghatag og assistance sa pagsuporta sa kalihokan sa kapulisan nga pagkuha og hustisya… Nakita man g’yud niya ang pagpursigido sa mga kapulisan nga madakpan ang suspek," said Manatad, who added she cannot reveal how much was given.

Earlier, Quisumbing also offered a P100,000 reward for the arrest of Largo.

Manatad said they hope the assistance given will help in Naraja's hospitalization and recovery.

Naraja thanked Quisumbing for the assistance.

"Nagpasalamat kaayo ko'g dako ni mayor kay naapil ko sa iyang kaluoy apil pud ang katong uban nga nitabang nako. At least ba makadugang sad og kadasig kanato nga maayo ta ug makabalik dayon sa serbisyo," said Naraja.

He is scheduled to undergo an operation this Monday. (FREEMAN)
