Police to train tanods in policing

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is enjoining local government units in crime prevention efficacy by conducting workshops and seminars in preparation for the reintegration of curfew and on standard booking procedures, in selected barangays in Cebu City.

Chief Inspector Keith Allen Andaya, chief of San Nicolas police station, said they are working closely with barangay law enforcers in imparting the standard operating procedures when it comes to policing, particularly as the city’s curfew ordinance will be strictly implemented by next week once the seminars are through.

“Ma-implement ni formally siguro next week. Amo pa man gud gi-training ang mga tanod uban,” Andaya said.

The seminars will be conducted in Barangays Sawang Calero, Calamba, San Nicolas Proper, Pahina San Nicolas, Pasil, Suba, and Duljo Fatima.

The curfew ordinance stipulates that minors are prohibited from staying outside their homes from 10 p.m. until 4:30 a.m.

Andaya said that they have also notified internet shops in their area to make sure minors are off these establishments by 10 p.m., adding that failure to comply will lead to temporary closure.

“Ang regarding sa net café, gipadal-an na og notice sa mga barangay captain nga after 10 p.m., wa na gyu’y mga bata. Kay dili gani, sila mao’y ipa-closing,” Andaya said.

Aside from enforcing curfew, police are also enjoining barangay tanods in implementing CCPO’s Oplan Pokemon, an anti-crime program initiated by CCPO Director Senior Superintendent Joel Doria.

Andaya said they are also doing their best to train barangay law enforcers on proper booking procedures.

“Next week padayun pa namo kana bang arresting techniques og follow-up just in case naa’y mga drug personalities sa area, and criminalities. Simultaneous siya sa implementation sa city ordinances, and at the same time, apil ang curfew,” Andaya said.

He said that they are considering inviting personnel from the Commission of Human Rights (CHR) and the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) to the seminars to discuss matters pertaining to human rights violations during the conduct of arrests.

“Sa amoa ra gyud, kung unsa amoang ma-impart nga knowledge. Pero nindot na nga idea, ako lang na i-brought up sa barangay captains para sila pud mismo, kay para man pud na sa ilang tanod,” Andaya said. —/JBB (FREEMAN)
