Chinese firm wants to build power plant

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Executives of Chinese power-producing company China Energy Engineering Group (CEEG) have expressed their intention to build a 200-300 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Cebu.

Two of the company’s top executives, Yuwu Lee and Ruan Lin, have met with Governor Hilario Davide III.  CEEG is said to be one of the world’s largest comprehensive solutions provider for the power industry.

Its international power projects include the EREN SC Coal-fired Power Plant (2×600MW) Project in Turkey and the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant (1×300MW) Project Phase I in Pakistan.

Lin, the vice president, said their proposal for a plant in Cebu is still in its initial stage and they have yet to discuss details further.

For now, the company is gathering data on the energy situation and power needs of Cebu.

It is also looking for the most favorable location, as the plant it wants to build will reportedly be bigger than the coal-fired power plant of Kepco in Naga City.

“We are exploring the possibility to develop a coal-fired power plant (here in Cebu) with a total capacity of 200 to 300 megawatt depending on the technical design,” Lin said.

Davide welcomes the plan and said he will wait for a more detailed proposal from CEEG.

CEEG is also engaged in the business of survey, design and consultancy, construction and contracting, as well as equipment manufacturing, cement production, and cement explosives and investments. — /JMO (FREEMAN)
