In Toledo and Sibonga shootings: Ex-councilman, drug surrenderer shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were killed by unidentified gunmen in separate shooting incidents in Toledo City and Sibonga town Saturday and Sunday evening.

A former councilman of Barangay Ibo, Toledo City was shot dead outside his residence by an unidentified gunman Sunday night.

Initial police investigation disclosed that the victim, Jan Clive Normandia, 31, was talking to his cousin and his helper outside his house when a white Honda Civic suddenly arrived in front of the house.

Shots were then fired towards the former councilman from inside the vehicle.

After the first shot, Normandia ran together with his cousin and helper to escape but the second shot hit him.

Normandia sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. He was immediately brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Police Officer 3 Bombino Enriquez said that the suspects did not open the window of the vehicle when they shot at Normandia.

“Nabuslot ang bintana daw sa awto kay didto man gipabuto, nagtuo pa gani ang ig-agaw nga sakyanan to sa biktima kay pareha man ug color sa awto pud niya,” said Enriquez.

Enriquez added that Normandia has a pending case of frustrated murder.

“Gikiha man ni siya kay nakapusil man daw ni bag-ohay lang. Usa ni sa angulo nga atong gitan-aw karon,” Enriquez told The FREEMAN.

He said that they are now checking the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings in the area to determine the identities of the suspects.

Meanwhile in Sibonga, a drug surrenderee was shot dead by an unidentified suspect in Sitio Gipon, Barangay Manatad, Saturday evening.

The victim was identified as Renie Cabal, 42, a resident of Barangay Manatad.

Initial investigation revealed that Cabal, who works as a habal-habal driver, had been transporting his passenger to Sitio Gipon.

Several meters from where his passenger disembarked, an unidentified person stepped in front of the motorcycle and shot Cabal several times in different parts of his body, resulting to his instantaneous death.

Recovered from the crime scene were six empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol.

Police are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive for the killing.
