Old crack in Tabunok flyover still bothers motorists

Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority (CTTODA) Head Almond Dela Peña said he has received complaints about the old reflection crack in the Tabunok flyover that makes vehicles bounce as they pass through.

Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) Area Engineer II Jorge Laroa explained that an expansion plate of a certain portion of the flyover was stolen years ago, which caused the crack.

He said that the reflection crack had always been their problem after the expansion joints plate was stolen way back in the 1990s, adding that they have since been requesting for budget from the national government for its replacement.

Dele Peña urges the DPWH to immediately address the problem before classes begin next month to prevent accidents from happening, especially at night.

“Ako niagi ko, didto niuntol gyud ang sakyanan, mahug na gyud siya og libaong. Hangyo nako nga mapaayo sa dali nga panahon sa dili maabot pa magsugud na ang klase for the reason nga labi na sa motorista labi na sa gabii dili makita kaayo prone sa disgrasya,” he said.

Dela Peña said it is fortunate that he has only received complaints and not accident reports caused by the crack.

To address the problem, the DPWH has temporarily patched up the area while waiting for the budget for its repair. (FREEMAN)
