‘Trysting’ lawyers post bail

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The two lawyers who were arrested after they were allegedly caught in a pension house in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, on Friday morning have posted bail for their temporary freedom.

Early on Friday the wife of one of the lawyers, who is also a lawyer herself, called the police for assistance after she found her husband in the pension house with a woman lawyer who used to work as his research assistant.

The two are now facing charges for concubinage and violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004) filed by the wife.

Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu, Mabolo Police Station chief, said after the lawyers were brought to the Cebu City Prosecutor's Office for filing of charges, they immediately posted bail.

The names of the lawyers are being withheld by The FREEMAN because of the nature of the case.

It was on Thursday night when the wife decided to check on her husband in his law firm but he was no longer there.

However, she saw her husband's vehicle in a pension house parking lot so she asked the guard if her husband was with someone else, but the guard told him that he was alone when he came in.

The wife pleaded with the front desk clerk to tell if her husband checked in with someone but the clerk was hesitant to tell her. She was later able to convince her to do so after offering free legal services for life.

The front desk clerk eventually gave her the room key and she went to the room with her helper. When her husband kept barring the door she called for police help.

The husband was later convinced to open the door, but allegedly grabbed his wife after she came in, forcing police to intervene.

The lover locked herself in the bathroom and only came out after a policewoman came to arrest her. The two were then brought to the Mabolo Police Station.

The wife earlier told The FREEMAN that on December 22, 2015 she already told the woman to stop her advances on her husband or else she will file disbarment against her. — /BRP (FREEMAN)
