Man sued for taking neighbor’s money inside piggy bank

CEBU, Philippines- A 29-year-old man has been indicted for allegedly taking his neighbor’s money from her piggy bank and for attempting to rape her. 

The accused, whose name is withheld by The FREEMAN to protect the identity of the victim, was held for trial by Cebu City Prosecutor 1 Jill Ann Gealon who found probable cause of robbery and attempted rape against him.

 “Perusal of the record readily shows that probable cause exist to charge respondent of robbery and attempted rape,” her joint resolution read.

 The accused allegedly took P2,000 from the piggy bank of his 36-year-old neighbor whom he also attempted to rape in her house in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City around 10 a.m. on August 7.

 The victim said in her affidavit that when she arrived home after having a pedicure in front of her house, she discovered that the jalousie blades of her window were already detached.

 She immediately took photos of her window, went outside and told her neighbors about it.

 When she was advised to check her house if anything was missing, she noticed that her piggy bank was already open and the P2,000 cash inside was gone.

 The victim, who was alone in their house that time, then decided to take a bath. When she entered the bathroom, someone suddenly grabbed her and covered her mouth from behind.

 She struggled to get free and found out that the man was already naked at that time. The accused allegedly hit her in the different parts of her body.

 The victim shouted for help but the accused choked her and pushed her head in the wall.

 She struggled hard and realized that it was her neighbor. She continued to shout for help. Her brother and her neighbors came to her rescue and held the accused.

 The police also arrived and arrested the accused. The victim went to the hospital after for the treatment of the physical injuries she sustained.  (FREEMAN)
