39 barangays get vehicle from Capitol

Michael Vencynth H. Braga/NSA - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - During critical situations, officials of Barangay Cogon in Dumanjug had to request from the municipal hall, located around three kilometers away, a vehicle to transport patients to the hospital in Barili or in Cebu City.

Cogon Barangay Captain Vicente Suerte recounted instances when the municipal ambulance was not available, and they would have a hard time looking for another vehicle, thus, putting the life of their constituents at risk.

“Kasagaran among constituents adto g’yud sa kapitan manuol. Inig request namo, wa diha ang ambulansya kay naghatod pod og pasyente,” he shared with The FREEMAN.

Barangay Cogon acquired an ambulance in 2007 during the stint of Cebu third district Representative Gwendolyn Garcia as governor, but it has already been rendered unserviceable.

But starting yesterday, the barangay will no longer have to borrow vehicle from their municipality, said Suerte.

Barangay Cogon and 38 other barangays and municipalities in the province received a unit of multicab each from the Capitol.

Acting Governor Agnes Magpale turned over yesterday the vehicles to the barangay captains of Hilantagaan and Okoy in Santa Fe; Budbud in Barili,; Sac-on in Carmen;Tubod and Pitalo in San Fernando; Apo, Lengigon, and Talaytay in Argao; Manipis and Mohon in Talisay City; Ward 4 in Minglanilla; Poblacion 1 and Putat in Tuburan; Balhaan, Dobdob, Sulsogan and Ginablan in Badian; Poblacion West in Moalboal, Kanghumaod, Pawa and Paculob in Dumanjug; Lepanto, Sta. Filomena and Salagmaya in Alcantara; Tacup in San Remigio; Mabuli and Managase in Tabogon; Canamucan in Compostela; Luyang in Carmen; and Banilad in Mandaue City.

The city of  Toledo also received two multicabs, while the municipalities of Santa Fe and Madridejos got one unit each.

Two multicabs were also turned over to Barangay Tupas in Pinamungajan, the Provincial Information Office and Provincial General Services Office records show.

All multicabs are worth P5.1 million, or at least P130,000 each, with Cebu Sendai Motor Sales Inc. as the supplier.

In her speech during the turnover rite yesterday, Magpale said this was the third wave of Capitol’s turnover of vehicles, adding that the project is part of the present administration’s thrust to improve the delivery of health services.

“Akong gipahinumdoman ang mga kapitan sa pasumangil nga ang atong gobernador wa kuno’y nabuhat, ikatulo na intawon ni pagpanghatag ug naa pa’y mosunod,” she said.

Capitol has turned over a total of 143 vehicles since 2013, excluding the ones given yesterday.

Suerte thanked the Capitol for the new unit of multicab, saying it would help the barangay improve the delivery of basic services.  — (FREEMAN)
