Couple’s fight disrupts peace at Capitol

Michael Vencynth H. Braga/JMO - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Capitol became the setting of a shouting match last Tuesday afternoon when a woman confronted her husband upon learning that he had declared in his work papers that he is a widower.

Ruben Limbaga, the guard on duty at that time, said the woman was so enraged that she kicked her husband several times. The husband works at the Capitol on a job order arrangement.

The Freeman is withholding the names of the couple pending official investigation.

“Misiyagit iyang asawa, ingon nga nganong imong gibutang didto nga patay na ko nga buhi pa man tawon ko. Gitadyakan iyang bana sa gawas. Ang bana perti na man sukoa pud kay nauwaw gyud na siguro,” Limbaga told reporters yesterday.

Limbaga said he was the one who intervened and advised the husband to leave before bringing the woman to the Capitol’s information desk and eventually to the Fuente Police Station. At this point, the woman was at the height of her emotions that she was in the brink of fainting.

The wife reportedly learned about the husband’s declaration when she checked his records at Capitol’s Human Resource Management Office. It so happened that the husband went to the office to follow-up on his requirements.

The husband claimed they have been separated for 20 years but the wife reportedly wants them to reconcile and be together again. She is also asking for financial support.

Yesterday morning, the FREEMAN visited the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office where the man is assigned but he was not present yesterday. A staff member at PENR also said he did not return to the office in the afternoon after his field work.
