The Filipino athlete as art subject

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - series of neo-expressionist-themed paintings by French artist Delphine de Lorme headline the art exhibit titled "Delphine De Lorme | Pacquiao."

Currently the featured show of the Pint Space at Qube Gallery, this exhibit is essentially a tribute to Manny Pacquiao's April 9 victory over Timothy Bradley - a collection that features paintings that depict Pacquiao's victories in the boxing ring over the years.

Inspired by the works of Mimmo Rotella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, abstract expressionist Jasper Johns and neo-expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat, De Lorme has built a reputation for crafting works that are characterized by vivid colors and witty compositions.

The artist has also earned a following for deconstructing the facets that define pop-culture icons - reinterpreting their being in a light that exalts moments of victory and beauty in dramatic tones.

Opening on April 19, the show runs until May 14. (FREEMAN)
