CEBU, Philippines - Genina Marcelo Abrau, the only candidate from Central Visayas in the ongoing Miss Philippines Earth 2016 contest, was not able to join the rest of the ladies who visited the Psalmstre Enterprises processing plant in Taytay, Rizal. Abrau was with another batch visiting another sponsor. The Boholana beauty is representing her hometown of San Miguel and is a student at Bohol Island State University.

Psalmstre has been the pageant’s sponsor for several years now and the candidates’ sponsor visit is part of the pre-pageant activities. During the visit, the candidates were given a business seminar and a tour around the plant showing the tedious process of manufacturing New Placenta and Olive-C skincare products.

“Miss Earth and Psalmstre share the same advocacy that is to care for Mother Earth and to promote the natural way of maintaining beauty,” said chief executive officer Jim Acosta.

“Our products follow rigid processes based on thorough research. Our research and development team makes sure that we only use natural active ingredients, specifically plant-based. We are actively promoting Filipino beauty without compromising the environment. This is beauty with responsibility.”

New Placenta endorser Miss Earth-Air 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz shared tips on how to effectively perform beauty rituals despite their hectic schedules. She said that a proper beauty regimen will help one achieve healthy, glowing skin, which is a must for beauty queens. International ambassador Mr. Puerto Rico 2015 Fernando Alvarez was also present to welcome the candidates.

Abrau, 20, will try to give Bohol its first victory in the pageant. Dumaguete City’s Maria Fatima Al-sowyed and Cagayan de Oro City’s Charinna Barro also vow to bring home the crown. Dumaguete-born Al-sowyed represented Cebu City when she joined and won Miss Bikini Philippines last year.

Dumaguete was formerly part of Central Visayas and is currently the seat of the newly created Negros Island Province. Barro, on the other hand, was among the Miss Olive-C Campus Model Philippines 2014 finalists representing Jose Rizal University.

Miss Philippines Earth 2016 will crown its new queen from among 48 women on Independence Day, June 12, at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite. —  (FREEMAN)
