CEBU, Philippines – Jason Dy of Team Sarah was declared winner of the second season of “The Voice of the Philippines” on Sunday.

The 24-year-old singer bested three other finalists for the title. Alisah Bonaobra  of Team Apl placed second. Meanwhile, Leah Patricia of Team Lea and Rence Rapanot of Team Bamboo finished third and fourth, respectively.

As winner of “The Voice Philippines,” Jason won a P1 million cash prize and a recording contract with MCA Universal, among others.

The finale of ABS-CBN’s reality show was held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila, Pasay City.

The four finalists competed in a two-night grand finals. The contestants did four sets of performances, divided into two nights.

During the show’s first finale night held on Saturday, the four contestants performed twice – a duet with a guest artist and a solo performance.

For the second finale night, the finalists sang a “dramatic” song and a duet with their respective coaches.

Jason performed “Wrecking Ball" with Charice Pempengco and “With You” during the Saturday live shows.

“Hey, Jason, amazing job.  You have grown so much in this competition. I’ve seen you dance, do all kinds of different things. Great job, Sarah, and congratulations with that performance,” coach Apl d ap said of his performance of “Wrecking Ball.”

Meanwhile, for the Sunday live shows, Jason sang “Angels Brought Me Here” and “If I Ain’t Got You” with Sarah.

The winner was decided via text votes. The final two contestants were declared based on the votes during the Saturday and Sunday numbers, while the winner was decided based on votes during Jason and Alisah’s final performance on Sunday.

This is the second time coach Sarah’s finalist bested the contestants of fellow coaches Lea Salonga, Bamboo and Apl d ap. Lyca Gairanod of Team Sarah won “The Voice Kids” last year.

Jason was an immediate standout when he auditioned for the second season of “The Voice Philippines.” He made three coaches turn their chairs after he performed Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” during the blind auditions.

“Sobra kaming bilib na bilib sa'yo, kasi hindi mo kinailangang lakasan 'yung boses mo, o bumirit para sa amin. 'Yung strength mo, para sa akin, is 'yung falsetto mo, ang linis linis, na ang sarap sarap sa puso naming pakinggan,” Geronimo said after his audition.

Jason was a bar singer in Singapore before joining “The Voice Philippines.” He also worked as a demo singer and as a “haranista,” or a singer who offers serenading services. — PhilStar News Service
