PAGASA explains cool April weather
MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon, known locally as "amihan," has intensified and is now affecting Luzon, the state weather bureau reported on Tuesday.
This explains the cool winds experienced at the start of the month of April, which is colloquially acknowledged as the start of "summer" in the Philippines. The country, however, only has two seasons—the dry and wet periods.
The season of amihan, characterized by trade winds, moderate temperatures and little rainfall, started in November last year and usually ends in May or June.
In an advisory, PAGASA said the tail-end of a cold front is still affecting Visayas and Mindanao.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from Northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas with coastal waters along the areas being moderate to rough.
Winds coming from the Northeast will be light to moderate elsewhere with slight to moderate seas.
Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga is expected to experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
The rest of Visayas and Mindanao meanwhile is expected to experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.
