2 dead in road accidents

CEBU, Philippines - A 44-year-old man died after he was accidentally hit by a vehicle along N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Linao, Talisay City on Saturday evening.

The victim was identified as Mattew Othello Omega, a resident of Minglanilla.

Investigation revealed that the victim was hit by an Izusu Elf with plate numbers UHX 724 with 51-year-old Macasero Pat, a resident of Barangay Tapon, Dumanjug town as the driver.

Police said Pat was travelling from Cebu City heading south when the victim suddenly crossed the street.

The victim was hit by the vehicle and was thrown into the pavement, sustaining severe injuries due to the impact.

Pat on the other hand lost control of the vehicle, which turned sideways. He was also injured.

Both of them were brought to Talisay District Hospital but Omega was pronounced dead on arrival.

Balamban accident

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man also died after the motorcycle he was driving reportedly bumped into a Mitsubishi Fuso truck along the national highway in Barangay Abucayan, Balamban town on Saturday dawn.

The victim was identified as Romel Canello of Binabag, Bogo City.

Investigation showed that both vehicles were travelling in the same direction when the accident happened.

The truck, which was being driven by Lucio Amaro, 44, of Barangay Abucayan, Balamban, was travelling ahead of the motorcycle when the latter suddenly bumped into the truck.

Canello and his backrider Ritchie Tayasan, 19, fell to the ground and got injured. They were rushed to the hospital but Canello was declared dead on arrival.

Amaro, on the other hand, voluntarily surrendered at Balamban Police Station after the incident. (FREEMAN)
