Seniors now have office in Capitol

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - After eight years of waiting, the Cebu Provincial Federation of Cities and Municipalities Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CPFSCAP) will now have its own office at the Capitol compound.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office chief Marivic Garces yesterday announced that a space on the second floor of the Legislative Building is now being prepared for their office.

This was Garces' response after CPFSCAP president Amelia Kiamko, during the Senior Citizens Day yesterday, presented a resolution requesting the provincial government for an office.

Regarding the group's request for funding for the management of this office, Garces states that the organization must first liquidate the P200,000 budget previously released to them before any further funding could be given.

Provincial Board Member Jose Mari Salvador, who heads the committee on senior citizens affairs, also assured the CPFSCAP of his support for their activities.

Salvador has appealed to the group to guide him on what they would need.

He also requested that he be invited during the meeting of CPFSCAP so that he will be familiarized with the activities and programs of the senior citizens especially since he was appointed to his post just in July this year.

Though, he said, he has been holding meetings with the senior citizens from Cebu's Second District, which he represents in the Provincial Board.

"I will try my best, I need your feedback, I will try to facilitate the programs with the Governor," Salvador said.

Salvador also thanked Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale for heeding the request of the senior citizens. (FREEMAN)
