"Undas"

"UNDAS". Because they often hear this word ("undas") on TV during the yearly observance of All Souls and All Saints Days, Cebuanos, even in the distant barangays, now call the traditional "kalag-kalag" celebration "undas". Danilo, a tartanilla driver, 75, now seldom say "kalag-kalag" because according to him "undas" is easier to pronounce.

 

BROADCAST. A mediaman, our Ear informer, said the popularity of the word "undas" is the result of the influence of broadcasting which he said "reaches even the jungles where Tarzan lives." But a print journalist argues: "Manaug man gihapon si Tarzan sa Colon pagpangita'g detalye sa balita sa peryodiko."
