CEBU, Philippines - A five-year-old girl was shot to death while asleep Saturday night in Sitio Puntod, Barangay Taghaginod in Naga City.

In a telephone interview, PO1 Danilo Fernandez told The Freeman that while the girl was sleeping, her grandmother, Prima Cantorne, heard noise outside and checked the door because she thought someone had entered her home.

Fernandez said a few minutes later, Cantorne heard gunshots coming from the outside and then she found her granddaughter already dead.

“Naay saba sa gawas. Gi-check niya kay miaksyon og doot sa pultahan, burst of fire na, pagtan-aw sa apo wa nay kinabuhi,” he said.

Fernandez said Cantorne was so scared she  failed to ask for help and waited till morning to report the killing to barangay officials.

“Way suga tungod sa kahadlok wala makasyagit og tabang. Naghuwat ra siya og mobuntag aron mo-report sa barangay,” Fernandez said.

Responding police officers brought the five-year-old to Naga City Health Center but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Porferia Daclan.

The police have no suspects yet.  (FREEMAN)
