Gullas Cup a bridge to better future

CEBU, Philippines — The Rhea Gullas Cup 1st District of Cebu Inter-City/Municipality Sports Festival 2024 kicked off with a big bang on Saturday, February 10, at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in the City of Naga, south of Cebu.
Before declaring the tournament open, Cebu First District Rep. Rhea Mae Aquino Gullas reminded all the competing athletes from Cebu’s first congressional district composed of the cities of Talisay, Naga, and Carcar and the municipalities of Minglanilla, San Fernando, and Sibonga to make use of their God-given talents as a ladder towards climbing the success they aspire in life.
“Use your talent to get a better future for you and for your family, that is the ultimate goal of the Gullas Cup,” said Gullas during the grand opening ceremony that was also graced by mayors Valdemar Chiong of Naga and Lionel Bacaltos of Sibonga.
Furthermore, Gullas takes pride that the annual tilt has grown bigger and better featuring at least nine sporting disciplines this time.
Aside basketball and volleyball, football, chess, table tennis, push bike, badminton, lawn tennis, and amateur boxing will also be contested in this year’s Gullas Cup.
Meanwhile, Jhesidy Thea Alberca of Sidlak Carcar romped away with the coveted Miss Gullas Cup 2024 crown.
Maria Adriana Prusak of Abante Minglanilla wound up as first runner-up, while Julia Jamaica Offergeld of Naga came out as second runner-up. — (FREEMAN)
