Glow Boosters to pick first in WNBL draft

CEBU, Philippines — The Glutagence Glow Boosters will pick first in the ground-breaking 2021 WNBL draft set to take place on Saturday, February 13, under a virtual setting.

The Boosters earned the right to select first in the draft following Sunday’s lottery to determine the order of picks during the 12 rounds among the five teams that have so far been given approval to see action in the country’s first ever professional women’s basketball league.

 The other ballclubs that will participate in WNBL’s inaugural pro season are the Stan Quezon Lady Spartan, the Pacific Water Queens, the Paranaque Lady Aces, and the Go For Gold-Philippine Navy Lady Sailors.

Glutagence will actually be the only team that will select in the first as well as in the second round of the draft being the club with the least number of “protect” players. Clubs were given the option to exercise the “protect” privilege in which they are allowed to hire players who did not apply for the draft.

The Boosters will also pick first in the third round following the draft lottery proceedings held last Sunday via online streaming.

Glutagence will pick 12 times in the draft after getting three protect players followed by the Lady Spartans (10), Queens (9), and the Lady Aces (8). The Lady Sailors will have no picks as they will be fielding an all-Navy squad in the 2021 season. — EBV
