Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu’s number one radio station, dyHP Radio Mindanao Network Cebu, and region’s longest-running newspaper, The FREEMAN, are joining forces for what would be the widest local coverage of the May 9, 2022 elections.

With the alliance, close to a hundred people consisting of journalists and employees of dyHP RMN Cebu and The FREEMAN and its sister publication Banat News will be deployed in various points in Cebu to give the latest updates on elections day, according to The FREEMAN news editor Fred Languido.

The updates will be reported via the 24/7 coverage of DYHP which can be heard over the radio with live streaming available online, as well as via The FREEMAN’s official Facebook page and printed version.

“It is with gratitude and honor that DYHP RMN Cebu enters into a partnership with Cebu's oldest newspaper, The FREEMAN,  for a credible and comprehensive coverage of the 2022 local and national elections,” said Atty. Ruphil Fernandez-Bañoc, who heads DYHP.

“I am certain that through the men and women of integrity, the reporters and news writers of the two news outlets, the people of Cebu will be provided with fair, objective, and relevant information regarding this year's historic exercise of our right to suffrage,” he added.

DYHP is operating on frequency at 612 kHz with a power output of 10,000 watts.

The FREEMAN general manager Melandro Mendoza said the paper came up with the strategy in order to give “the best and widest coverage to our readers,” considering the lack of manpower due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bañoc also expressed optimism that the two institutions will be a strong force together.

“This is the first time that an institution in the broadcast industry and an institution in the print media will join forces to better serve our audience,” he said.
