Chan demands apology from rapper over wrong lyrics

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan yesterday said he wants US-based Filipino rapper Ez Mil to issue an apology to the city residents and rectify the lyrics of his rap which allegedly ridicules Lapulapu.

The lyrics of Mil’s song “Panalo” says “nanalo na ako nung mula pa na pinugutan si Lapu sa Mactan.” (I already won ever since Lapu was beheaded in Mactan.)

“Nasuko ko, naglagot ko. Nagpataka lang siya himo og istorya. Unsa man nang iyaha, bahala og sayop basta kay aron siya mosikat? Dakong bugal-bugal ang iyang gihimo sa atong hero nga angay natong respetaran, dili bugal-bugalan,” Chan told The FREEMAN.

“Dili gyud na mao. Si Lapulapu wala na siya gipugotan. Usa ni ka dakung insulto ang iyang gihimo. We are praising Lapulapu kay lagi atoa siyang bayani unya sa iyang kanta, bati kaayo iyang gibuhat ni Lapulapu,” the mayor said.

Chan added that there is now even an effort to include LapuLapu in the curriculum of the Department of Education to educate the younger generation of his heroism.

“Mao nga isip amahan sa dakbayan, nasakitan ko sa pagbiaybiay nga gibuhat. Kung wala giila ni Ez Mil nga bayani si Datu Lapulapu, dili nalang unta siya maghimo og kanta nga makamugna og kalagot ug kasuko sa matag Oponganon,” the mayor said in a separate post on Facebook.

“Dili na gani ta mosugot nga si Lapulapu himoon lang og escabeche, unya sa iyang lyrics gisayon-sayon lang niya og sulti nga gipugutan si Lapulapu,” the irked mayor said.

The rapper earlier admitted that he mistakenly got the facts wrong.

Lapu-Lapu City PIO head Mark Bautista said that upon the recommendation of City Legal Officer James Sayson, the City Council will pass a resolution in a special session today condemning the lyrics of the hit song.

Bautista said the city government will also ask for a public apology from Mil to the people of the city.

He added that the resolution will also contain a statement for Mil to rectify the lyrics stating Lapulapu was beheaded in Mactan.

According to Wish USA Music, Mil’s Wishclusive performance of “Panalo” garnered 25 million YouTube views in just about a week. — JMD (FREEMAN)
