Man shot dead in Mandaue City

CEBU, Philippines — A 25-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City yesterday morning.

Mheljhon Bolongon, a resident of 450 Burgos St., in Barangay Alang-Alang, suffered a gunshot wound on his head that caused his instant death.

Chief Inspector Mercy Villaro, information officer of Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) said that based on their investigation and accounts from passersby, the assailants were wearing a half-faced helmets and surgical masks.

The assailants reportedly used a black motorcycle in carrying out the crime in S. B. Cabahug Street of Barangay Ibabao-Estancia , in front of a motorcyce shop.

Police are currently investigating the incident and would gather more information with the help of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) from nearby establishments in the area.

Police have yet to establish the motive of the killing.

On Christmas Day, at least two persons were shot in separate areas by unknown gunmen.

Dondon Manatad, whose real name is Randolph Gutierrez Gonzales, was also shot dead by unknown gunmen on board a motorcycle in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City around 11:45 p.m.

Senior Superintendent Julian Entoma, chief of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO), said Manatad was betting on color games in the area when the suspects arrived and shot him.

Entoma said Manatad was involved in illegal drugs as he was the companion of Carlos Reyes, who was killed inside a coliseum and was also involved in the same prohibited activity.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Farouk Mustapha Miguel, 30, a tricycle driver was shot by unknown assailant in Sitio Iba, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City around 3:10 p.m.

Investigation revealed that the gunman is the victim's neighbor in Sitio Iba who remains at-large. (FREEMAN)
