CV now on code blue for quick emergency response
CEBU, Philippines — Starting today, April 30, all health facilities and emergency response teams across the region will be under heightened readiness, as the Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD) has raised a code blue alert until May 12, 2026.
This measure is in line with the continuing preparation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ Summit 2026 on May 7 and 8 in Cebu, to ensure a safe and secure environment throughout the international gathering.
According to the DOH-CVCHD, the measure aims to strengthen health emergency preparedness, ensure rapid response and resource mobilization, and intensify monitoring and coordination among concerned agencies.
The department also emphasized the need to maintain uninterrupted health services during the summit, with hospitals directed to establish fast lanes to prioritize urgent medical cases involving both delegates and the general public.
Under the code blue alert, hospitals, local health offices, and emergency responders are placed on standby for immediate deployment in case of medical or public health emergencies.
It stressed that the heightened alert status is part of standard protocols during major international events, particularly those involving high-level foreign delegates, to ensure the readiness of the healthcare system.
It added that coordination efforts remain ongoing as preparations continue, underscoring its commitment to health security and emergency readiness as the region hosts one of Southeast Asia’s most significant diplomatic events.
Meanwhile, the Lapu-Lapu City government has also declared a strict no-fly zone across the entire city from April 29 to May 12, 2026, as part of heightened security measures for the summit.
Under Ordinance No. 16-033-A-2022, the use of drones, kites, balloons, and other airborne objects is strictly prohibited. Authorities warned that violations may result in fines of up to P5,000 and confiscation of equipment.
City officials urged residents and visitors to comply with the regulations as preparations intensify for the arrival of leaders from the ASEAN member states.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan has called on all Oponganons and visitors to respect these regulations as they welcome the heads of state to the city. — /IHM (FREEMAN)
