Partylist bets hit up vote-rich Cebu

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Murang Kuryente Partylist (MKP) and Pwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat (PPP) Partylist first nominees, Arthur Yap and Harold Duterte, respectively, visited the vote-rich Cebu yesterday as they hope to get more votes here.

Yap, in a press conference, said that their group aims to reduce the electricity bills of consumers in the country.

He said they push the advocacy of transparent and accountable energy sector policies, removal of unjust charges on electric bill, promotion of renewable and sustainable energy sources, and representation of ordinary consumers in energy-related legislation.

“Our objective is to bring down the cost of electric power to our consumers because today, the Philippines has the most expensive power rate. In terms of income, we are number seven but in terms of power prices we are number one and people really are complaining and this is a foundational issue about the economic development sa atong nasud,” said Yap, who served as Bohol governor and Agriculture secretary previously.

Yap added that when we have cheap and reliable electricity, it is easier to put up businesses, manufacturing, retailing, trading, and services, thus jobs will increase.

Meanwhile, Duterte said that the PPP partylist, which he described as the only partylist strongly endorsed by the Duterte family headed by former president Rodrigo Duterte, aims to create a sustainable and prosperous future for the fisherfolk communities.

PPP is a newly-established partylist dedicated to representing and uplifting the maritime community of the Philippines, whose mission is to advocate for the rights and welfare of fisherfolk, ensuring their access to essential resources, fair labor practices, and sustainable fishing methods.

The PPP said they want to ensure that every fisherman’s voice is heard, their rights are protected, and their contributions to the nation's food security and maritime heritage are honored. They also want fisherfolk to have access to resources and advanced technology to ensure that our seas are preserved for future generations.

“We are aiming three seats in Congress. Naka-decide ang pamilya (Duterte) unsaon pagtabang sa kadaghanan especially the fisherfolk,” said Duterte.

“By amplifying the voices of fisherfolk in the political arena, we strive to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for our coastal communities and the nation at large,” he added. (CEBU NEWS)
