VP expected back in Cebu on May 2
CEBU, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte is expected to be back in Cebu on May 2, 2025, this time in Danao City for the “Duterte Maisug Avance Grand Rally” that will be held at the Cebu Technological University-Danao Campus.
Gikan sa Sugbo, Para sa Pilipino,” said the Hakbang ng Maisug-Cebu in their Facebook post.
Duterte was in Cebu on April 28, 2028 for three rallies.
First, she joined the solidarity rally of Cebu Gubernatorial candidate Pam Baricuatro in Carcar City.
From there, the vice president officially endorsed former Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Vice Mayor Dondon Hontiveros, and the whole slate of Partido Barug Bag-Ong Sugbo Team Rama during their rally at the Suba Gym in Barangay Suba.
In Mandaue City, she officially endorsed the candidacy of former Mandaue City mayor Jonas Cortes and the rest of the Team Mandaue slate.
“The eagle lands and personally expresses support for Team Mandaue,” Cortes said in his Facebook post.
Aside from Duterte, Senator Imee Marcos, who is seeking reelection, also joined the Mandaue rally.
Cortes added that it was a historic and momentous rally as Team Mandaue was joined by two of the country's most outstanding servant leaders.
“Deeply honored and grateful for the privilege to stand beside dignified public servants who embody exemplary leadership and whose hearts bleed for the Filipino people.
Lapu-Lapu City mayoral aspirant Paz Radaza, who was present in the rallies in Carcar City and Mandaue City was elated at Duterte’ speech for remembering the latter’s steadfast support of the vice presidential office when typhoon Odette struck Cebu on December 16, 2021.
Earlier, Duterte raises the hands of Danao City Mayor Mix Durano, who is running for Cebu 5th district representative; Danao City Vice Mayor Nito Durano, who is running for city mayor; Danao City Councilor Ivy Durano, who is running for vice mayor; and former 5th district congressman Red Durano, who is running for mayor in Poro, Camotes.
In a statement on Friday, the Duranos thanked Duterte for endorsing their respective candidacies in the upcoming elections.
The Duranos also expressed their support for Baricuatro’s gubernatorial bid.
— (FREEMAN)
