CCMC construction expected to be done before 2024 ends

Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Dr. Peter Mancao, officer-in-charge of Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), said the construction of the city hospital is “up and running” and is expected to be finished before the year ends.

Mancao said there has been significant progress since the construction work resumed in March 2024.

“Finally up and running na gyud ang atoang construction sa floor sa number 8, 9 and 10,” said Mancao.

Mancao, however, could not give the total percentage of the progress yet. But, he said that they are optimistic that the construction will wrap at the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Mancao said they have started the preparations for the city’s hosting of the Palarong Pambansa.

According to Mancao, as the hosting of Palarong Pambansa will draw the same number of participants as the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) they will be implementing the same preparations.

During the CVIRAA, Mancao said they have converted part of the lobby as priority lane for the CVIRAA athletes.

“We also converted a ward sa taas for the CVIRAA athletes, and we will still do the same for the Palaro,” said Mancao.

Mancao assured that despite the ongoing construction at the upper floors, hospital operations, especially attending to any cases of emergency, will not be hampered and they continue to function as level 2 hospital.

A space to accommodate more patients, however, continues to be a challenge for CCMC. Mancao said the emergency room and the hospital wards are always full.

“Mao na’ng hinay atong turnover from the emergency room to the ward tungod kay puno, maglisod ta, so kini, we are hopeful nga makahinay-hinay na ta’g finish sa upper floors and naa nasad tay elevator,” said Mancao.

As of this writing the elevator is still up for bidding.

The CCMC is expected to increase its bed capacity to 500 from the current 180 as soon as the construction is completed. (CEBU NEWS)
