CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama and Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros are set to take their oath of office anew.

They will have their formal induction rites early today at Plaza Sugbo highlighted with the “City’s State and direction in 2022 and beyond.”

Rama and Hontiveros had already taken their “private” oath of office last November 20 at the former’s Office at the City Hall following the demise of Mayor Edgardo Labella last November 19. It was done not to rush things Rama said, but it had to be done to avoid hiatus of functions at the City Hall.

A mass will take place before Rama and Hontiveros’ formal induction.

For the public oath taking, it will be administered by Regional Trial Court Judge Macaundas Hadjirasul.

Rama is set to report updates on the 10-point agenda of the late Mayor Labella as to how far they have accomplished, Rama’s protocol officer Neil Odchique said to The FREEMAN.

Labella has not delivered his State of the City Address this year due to illness while last year’s SOCA was mostly focused on the city’s COVID-19 pandemic response.

Aside from that, Rama will also be presenting his own 15-point agenda for the remainder of the term.

Rama is also expected to present the new department heads today.

Local chief executives from Cebu City’s neighboring local government units had been invited to attend today’s event including Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay and Balamban, as well as some national figures. — KQD (FREEMAN)
