CEBU, Philippines —  Wheelchairs will soon be on standby in every government building for senior citizens.

A resolution has been passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan requiring government-owned buildings to have available wheelchairs for the use of senior citizens for their government transactions.

"Senior citizens remain an active and important sector in the community building and in every Filipino family," read the resolution.

Thus, the Province of Cebu shall offer a wheelchair to senior citizens with walking difficulties to aid them in their individual endeavors in government buildings.

This resolution authored by 3rd District Board Member Atty. John Ismael Borgonia sought to support the global campaign for comfort and inclusivity for senior citizens.

"It is high time for cities and municipalities of Cebu Province to prioritize support for our senior citizens to fully allow them to enjoy life," the resolution further read.

Borgonia also cited in the resolution Batas Pambansa 344 which classifies impairments due to aging and coordination difficulties as disabilities.

BP 344 therefore necessitates the availability of standby wheelchairs in government buildings.

A copy of the resolution will be given to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and all mayors in the Cebu Province for procedural review and for prompt action. — GAN (FREEMAN)
