Drug suspect, guard shot dead

CEBU, Philippines — Two people, including an alleged member of the Sadaya drug syndicate, were killed in separate shooting incidents yesterday afternoon.

Jeric Sadaya, 25, resident of Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, was shot dead by unidentified gunman in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City past 4 p.m. The victim was onboard his red motorcycle on his way to Consolacion when the shooting happened.

Chief Inspector Mercy Villaro, spokesperson of Mandaue City Police Office, said drug paraphernalia and fake money were found in the victim’s possession. She said they are still conducting investigation to determine the motive.

Chief Inspector Michael Angelo Beltran, MCPO Station 3 commander, said the victim was included in their list of high value targets. Sadaya is reportedly a level 2 drug pusher and member of the Sadaya drug group.

In another shooting incident, 23-year-old security guard Jojie Pelayo died on the spot after two unidentified gunmen shot him yesterday afternoon in Sitio Upper Panabang, Barangay Apas, Cebu City.Pelayo had just arrived at his residence and was maneuvering to park his motorcycle when the gunmen came. His live-in partner, Aquila Bautista, said she noticed that the gunmen were following them.

Homicide investigator Rommel Bancog said they are eyeing love triangle as possible motive. Police investigators are looking at Bautista’s previous relationship. (FREEMAN)
