Special task group formed to solve Sasing case

CEBU, Philippines — To expedite the investigation into the killing of PO1 Sassy Mae Sasing last Tuesday, a special investigation task group was formed, which is composed of personnel from Consolacion and Lapu-Lapu City police, regional police headquarters and anti-cybercrime group.

Senior Superintendent Roberto Alanas, Mandaue City Police Office director, led a case conference of Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Sasing yesterday.

Sasing was shot dead by two identified assailants while onboard her motorcycle on her way home top Jugan, Consolacion.

Police are looking into the possibility that the attack was because of a personal grudge.

Initial investigation revealed that a member of Sasing’s family was involved in a child abuse case but this was settled amicably.

However, other possibilities are not ruled out.

Alanas said that police have identified two persons of interest but he refused to divulge their names for security reasons.

He said that they still have to establish enough evidence before they can be considered as suspects.

The copy of the footage from a closed circuit television (CCTV) of a nearby establishment was submitted to the Anti-Cyber Crime Group in Manila so it can be enhanced.

“We are waiting for the enhanced video to know what really happened,” Alanas said.

He urged motorists who have dashboard cameras who also happened to be in the area during the shooting to come forward and help in the investigation.

Senior Superintendent Joel Doria, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director, said all available information from their intelligence unit will be immediately turned over to the task group.

“We don’t need a request.  Whatever we have will be shared to Mandaue City Police so we can resolve the case,” Doria said.

Sasing’s wake is in their house in Barangay Jugan, Consolacion. She will be laid to rest on November 12 at the Manila Memorial Park in Liloan, Cebu. —MBG (FREEMANNEWS)
