Couple shot dead on the road
CEBU, Philippines - A couple was ambushed while on board a multicab in Barangay Catarman, Liloan town early evening last Sunday.
Senior Inspector Ramil Morpos, chief of the Liloan Police Station, said Celedonio and Josephine Angelo were driving home to Sitio Tiwasan from the market in Barangay Tayud when two men on board a motorcycle overtook their vehicle in Sitio Landing and shot them several times.
“Ni-overtake ang nag-motor, nisirit og una unya didto nag-atang. Ang area giambushan ngitngit, mi-ngaw og kurbadahon, in’g agi momenor gyud,” Morpos said.
Interestingly, the hitman reportedly took his helmet off and was seen by witnesses.
After shooting the couple, the hitman took Josephine’s bag.
Robbery is considered as motive but Morpos said there must be another reason behind the shooting, considering the number of shots fired – seven at least.
“Posible nga naay laing motibo nganong gipatay gyud nya daghan kaayo ang bala,” he said.
Prior to the incident, the couple reportedly had a heated argument with a man over a land dispute.
“Unang gitan-aw ang issue sa tulis. After sa pagpamusil, gikuha ang shoulder bag sa babaye. Gikuha lang ang bag sa babaye aron malihis ang imbestigasyon,” he said.
Morpos added that the gunman can be considered a “professional” considering the way the shooting was carried out.
The couple left three children behind. (FREEMAN)
