Cop dies in vehicular accident

CEBU, Philippines -  A town police officer died after he met an accident while traveling on the provincial road of Sitio Pongdol, Barangay Poblacion, Borbon Wednesday at 6:00 in the evening.

PO1 Lamberto Sorillo Lobiano Jr. was traveling home to Tabogon town onboard his Kawasaki Bajaj (for registration) when he hit a stray dog that suddenly crossed the road.

Lobiano suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Barangay Damolog, Sogod but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Ellen de la Cruz.

Lobiano was formerly assigned in Bohol before he transferred to the Sogod Police Station in 2011 as Court Process Officer.

Sr. Insp. Jose Rovic Villarin, Sogod police chief, said Lobiano asked permission to go home at around 5:00 p.m. that day to get some of his things because he will attend a hearing in Bohol supposedly at 8:00 a.m. yesterday.

An hour later, Villarin just learned that Lobiano died in a road accident.

PO3 Rey Suson, investigator of the Borbon Police Station, told The FREEMAN that Lobiano was allegedly traveling at a high speed when he lost control of the motorcycle after he accidentally hit a stray dog.

Lobiano was thrown off the motorcycle and hit a concrete lamppost along the road which caused his head injury.

He was not wearing a helmet at that time.

“Sa kakusog sad sa iyang dagan matud sa nakakita ngadto patay pud ang iro. (Witnesses say that because he was speeding, the dog also died),” Suson said in a phone interview.

Villarin described Lobiano as a good man in uniform who could be trusted in terms of filing charges and of serving warrants.— (FREEMAN)
