Cash stolen from school recovered

CEBU, Philippines -  An hour after the robbery at the De La Salle Andres Soriano Memorial College in Toledo City last Wednesday morning, two students from the Don Andres Soriano National High School recovered a knapsack containing P90,500 cash.

The knapsack was recovered at a swamp a few meters away from the national highway and several meters away from the school.

Aside from the cash, also recovered were a pair of jeans and a jacket suspected to have been owned by the robber.  These were turned over by the students to the DAS police sub-station.

Supt. Henry Biñas, Toledo City police chief, suspected that robber may have panicked after teachers saw him.

“Gilabay siguro ang bag kay mura’g naratol na unya nagkuha lang ug portion sa kwarta,” Biñas said.

The robber earlier pointed a gun at cashier Concepcion Golar Cimafranca, 49, while she was manning her booth, and took P100,000 cash before escaping through the unguarded perimeter fence behind the school before security guards could arrest him.

The cash was the tuition fees paid by students for their first periodical examination.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador said that identification of the robber could provide the police a very good lead in the conduct of the investigation.

Comendador claimed the robber was also involved in illegal drugs and robberies in the city.  However, he refused to disclose further information pending investigation.

“We are very confident nga makuha na namo,” he said.

Based on the assessment of the Toledo City police, the robber is still in their area of responsibility.   (FREEMAN)
