Eversley Sanitarium upgraded to general hospital

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Eversley Childs Sanitarium in Barangay Jagobiao in Mandaue City is now a general hospital which means its 50-bed capacity will become 200-bed capacity.

"I am happy to announce the expansion of services of the Eversley hospital. With the approval of this law, it is not just the Mandauehanons who will benefit but also a lot of Cebuanos in the north who have been availing of the hospital’s services,” said Cebu Sixth District Representative Jonas Cortes, the principal author of the law at the Lower House.

Republic Act 11273 otherwise known as An Act increasing the Bed Capacity of Eversley Childs Sanitarium and renaming it into the Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital was recently signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte.

“I am glad that we have successfully pushed for the passage of this bill with just one term in Congress. We thank President Duterte for this,” Cortes said in a statement.

This latest development has elated some nearby residents of the city including the municipality of Liloan.

In fact, the municipal government of Liloan led by then Mayor Duke Frasco and now Mayor Christina Frasco has allocated funds from the municipal coffers to help patients from their town who are admitted in the said hospital.

“It has always been our primary goal to improve the health facilities of the 6th district in order to support our already over-loaded Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center," Cortes said.

Cortes said that when he was approached by the hospital's management on the latter's hope to increase its bed capacity, he did not hesitate to exert efforts in ensuring that this will be fulfilled.

“With God’s grace, the expansion is finally realized.  The people of the 6th district of Cebu can now enjoy medical services of a general hospital that is near their homes,” said Cortes, who is now running for mayor in the city challenging his former ally, incumbent city Mayor Luigi Quisumbing. — MBG (FREEMAN)
