CEBU, Philippines - Creative writers, literature teachers and students, and literature buffs in Cebu converged at the "Taboan 2016: Pagbinayloay" on December 23, 2016 at the Robinson's Galleria Cebu.

Taboan 2016 Cebu paid homage to Dr. Erlinda K. Alburo for her contribution to Cebuano arts, letters and culture. A discussion on "Writing Cebuano in the 21st Century" with Missing Felimon frontman Lorenzo Niñal, travel blogger Jona Bering and writer Januar Yap moderated by Joanalyn Gabales, was one of the highlights.

The literary gathering also featured performance poetry from members of creative writing groups Mga Anak sa Dagang (MAD), the Women in Literary Arts-Cebu Inc. (WILA), Bathalan-ong Halad sa Dagang (Bathalad), and University of the Philippines Cebu's Tinta.

Taboan is a national event started by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) with the vision of conveying together writers from the regions. Taboan 2016 Cebu is a satellite activity organized by the Cebuano Studies Center of the University of San Carlos, in collaboration with Robinson's Galleria Cebu and MAD.

Other Taboan satellites were in Laoag City, Manila, Quezon, Iriga and Naga Cities, Iloilo City, Tacloban City, and Iligan City. This year's Taboan theme is "Pagbinayloay (Exchange)," highlighting the event's role of enabling the exchange of ideas and works of creative writers in the country, according to Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu, literary arts coordinator for NCCA Central Visayas.
