CEBU, Philippines - VideoLAN - makers of the famed VLC Media Player - recently released a technical preview of its forthcoming VLC version 3.0 multimedia player - a beta app version that highlights support for 360-degree image/video playback modes.

Dubbed the "VLC 360 Technical Preview", the beta can play 360-degree videos that are formatted on spatial 360-degree video specifications and can render panoramic or 360-degree images - complete with mouse and keyboard controls and support for OpenGL and Direct3D11 standards.

Currently available in versions for Windows and Mac OS X, the technical preview precedes the formal release of "VLC Media Player 3" - which is expected to bring VLC's support for 360-degree video playback into different desktop and mobile operating systems.

More information on the technical preview - expected release date, pim of supported features and the like - is hosted on VLC's official online channels. (FREEMAN)
