The collaboration between screenwriter Eric Ramos and Direk Joel Lamangan is very fruitful. According to the writer of Rainbow’s Sunset, at times, Direk Joel gives him the full story idea of a film. All that he has to do is to enhance it to present the dynamics of the character.

“When Direk Joel told me about the story of Rainbow’s Sunset, nabuo na nila ni Ferdy Lapus. I just had to add more details for further enhancement, especially the characters of the three children,” Eric told Star Circuit.

“As a writer, minsan parang connect the dots na lang ako kasi buo ang kwento. Parang wala nang challenge. But here in Rainbow’s Sunset, the challenge lies on how I could present the point of the children after Eddie Garcia’s character decided to come out at the age of 84. That set off the complications which affected the whole family.”

Eric believes many gays will be able to relate with the story of "Rainbow’s Sunset" about a straight guy’s relationship with his gay best friend, which the guy’s wife accepted.

“The position of gays in our family and in our society is well-entrenched. Gays are not only benefactors of their own family but also of the guy they love, and their families as well. This is something that is happening in our society,” said Eric.

We know of some gays who support their lovers even if he is married or has a family. They are even made ninongs of their boyfriend's son. It is okay for some gays to do this. And they continue their special relationship with their boyfriend even if the guy is already married and has a family.

This dynamics in a relationship is tackled in "Rainbow’s Sunset."
