Sylvia Sanchez is reaping awards left and right for her engaging performance as the loving mother coping with Alzheimer’s disease in the ABS-CBN teleserye “The Greatest Love.”

At the 48th Box-Office Entertainment Awards (given by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation), she accepted the award for “The Greatest Love” which was voted Most Popular Daytime Drama Series.

At the recent Gawad Tanglaw Awards, the actress was also chosen winner for Best Performance by an Actress (TV Series) for “The Greatest Love,” which also starred Dimples Romana, Andi Eigenmann, Aaron Villaflor and Matt Evans as Sylvia’s children.

She acknowledges that her role as Gloria in the series is hard to top. If ever another mother role comes her way, it will be measured up to how Gloria had touched people’s lives in “The Greatest Love.” She would be hard-pressed to look for a role that could match, if not surpass, the impact that Gloria’s character had on viewers.

Sylvia doesn’t want to rush into getting another TV role, but she has been receiving offers to play mother roles.

“I have to choose my next project carefully,” said Sylvia. “My role as Gloria has so much impact that whatever I do next will be compared to it. Kung gagawa man ako ng bagong mother role, dapat ibang-iba  ito sa karakter ni Gloria.”

Sylvia is willing to take on other roles, even that of a rape victim, because she thinks these will offer her a big challenge in terms of acting requirements.

When asked who she want to play her tormentor if does play an sexual abuse victim in the future, she named Joel Torre, Rez Cortez, Nonie Buencamino, Pen Medina and Bembol Roco.

She is also willing to do an indie film. “We have many good indie films that were acclaimed abroad. Indie films have stories that are out-of-the-box, not your usual thing. It would be nice to try something different,” said the actress.

Sylvia added that it will be a dream come true for her if she gets the chance to work with Ms. Vilma Santos or Sharon Cuneta, who is her idol.

She also has no qualms in doing a supporting role even if she has played the lead character in “The Greatest Love.”

“I can still play supporting roles but it depends on the story. If the role is good and I believe I can do justice to it, then I would be willing to do it,” said Sylvia.

At times, she can’t help but wonder about the blessings coming her way, like her recent acting awards, same with her son  Arjo  Atayde who was named Best TV Supporting Actor for FPJ’s “Ang Probinsiyano.” Her daughter Ria Atayde, meanwhile, has been getting good reviews for her role in the ABS-CBN primetime series “Dear Heart.”

“Sometimes I feel that everything is just a dream. But I never fail to thank the Lord for all the blessings that He has showered upon me and my family. But these blessing should not cause me to become swell-headed. These awards should not make me feel boastful, but rather inspire me to do better in my craft as an actress,” said Sylvia, who is looking forward to her next TV series.

“These blessings should make me realize that I am probably doing something good, that’s why God is rewarding me for it. God probably has a mission for me. Maybe He wants me to do something, but I don’t have any idea what God wishes me to do.”
