Megastar turns 50 today

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Today is the 50th birthday of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and we join the rest of the Sharonians in wishing her the happiest birthday. But unlike her past birthdays, Sharon is not having any grand celebration to mark her 50th summer, which is a milestone in her life.

Many of her fans are taking to social media to ask if she is going to have a big celebration. After all, turning 50 is a big event and for a star of her stature, her fans believe that she ought to have something grand to mark the day.

We were accustomed to watching Sharon in a big concert at the Araneta Coliseum to mark her birthday. When she still had her musical variety show at ABS-CBN, the show’s staff would be abuzz with activity to prepare for her birthday. But nothing of that sort is happening now.

Maybe even Sharon is not keen on having something grand. This is her second birthday without her Mommy Elaine Cuneta by her side so we would understand if she feels lukewarm to the idea of having a big shindig. In the not so distant past, Sharon would rather take a trip to her favorite vacation place to unwind when her birthday is approaching.

We do know that an association of Sharon’s fans on Facebook who call their group All Things Sharon is going to celebrate her birthday even in her absence. The event is set for January 16 (10 days after Sharon’s birthday). What is clear is the group’s intention to celebrate Sharon’s birthday even without her presence. But they have extended their invitation to people who love the Megastar dearly.

In the Facebook page of All Things Sharon, we saw this message in Pilipino which we know is addressed to Sharon, and we’d like to share it with fellow Sharonians:

Once again, happy birthday Sharon!

2015 was a banner year for award-winning actor Allen Dizon. He had a winning streak which resulted in an unprecedented record: nine best actor awards for a single movie (“Magkakabaung”), six local awards including the prestigious Gawad Urian and three international best actor trophies.

Aside from “Magkakabaung,” he also starred in “Imbisibol,” which won for him the best actor trophy at the first Sinag Maynila Film Festival. He also finished three movies handled by three award-winning directors –“Sekyu” by Joel Lamangan, “Iadya Mo Kami” by Mel Chionglo and “Walang Katapusang Edsa” by Alvin Yapan.

All three movies are scheduled to compete in various international film festivals and are set to be released in commercial theaters.

Allen was also happy to be part of the cast of the top-rating afternoon drama “Doble Kara” where he played the husband of Carmina Villarroel and father of twins Sara and Kara (portrayed by Julia Montes). “Doble Kara” runs until March, but even if Allen’s character had died in the series, he was very thankful for the role since it gave him good exposure. He had many scenes and his character was very important to the story. But his role had to be killed off to give more focus to the story of the twins.

Allen was tapped to replace Cesar Montano in the Cinemalaya entry titled “Lando and Bugoy” and directed by Vic Asedillo, Jr. It is about a father and son relationship and it will be shot in Camiguin Island. The production team is set to leave for Camiguin Island on January 9.

Moreover, Allen is set to leave for Bangladesh on January 19 to attend the Dhaka International Film Festival where “Sekyu” is entered in the Main Competition.

“Your Face Sounds Familiar” Season One fourth placer Edgar Allan Guzman is having a concert at the Music Museum on January 16 titled “#Always EA @ Music Museum.”

Edgar’s career took a turn for the better after he competed in the ABS-CBN program and his fans are all out in supporting him. Right now he is doing a film with Alex Gonzaga for Star Cinema. He has two other movies in the can – “Papa’s Boys” where he co-stars with JM De Guzman and “Pare Mahal Mo Raw Ako” with Michael Pangilinan.

In between shooting for his Star Cinema film, Edgar will be busy taping for “Doble Kara” and is also preparing for his first major solo concert at the Music Museum which is produced by Flaming Torch Productions.

Joining him in the concert as special guests are Gerald Anderson, Joross Gamboa and Michael Pangilinan, plus Star Awards for Music’s Best New Female Recording Artist Hannah Nolasco and new YouTube sensation Mikay and Kikay.
