Cebu opens doors to AI learning café concept

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu has opened its first artificial intelligence (AI) learning café, blending a coffee shop setting with structured training in a bid to make AI education more accessible and commercially viable.

The venture, launched by SimplifAI Advisors, seeks to democratize knowledge of emerging technologies while supporting workforce development and innovation in the Philippines.

Branded as “Caf AI,” the initiative offers a tiered program catering to students, professionals, executives and policymakers.

Its curriculum spans introductory workshops to governance and regulatory courses, anchored on three priorities: community education, skills development to drive employment and innovation, and the promotion of AI ethics and policy.

The model extends beyond Cebu. SimplifAI plans to accredit coffee shops nationwide, allowing operators to convert quiet trading hours into AI learning sessions, creating additional revenue streams while building a wider network of training hubs.

“We’re not just teaching AI – we’re building a community where Cebuanos can learn together, collaborate and create wealth through early adoption of these powerful technologies,” said Vanj Padilla, lead trainer at SimplifAI Advisors.

Positioned as a proof-of-concept, Caf AI aims to establish Cebu as a focal point in the Philippines’ AI transition and could provide a template for similar initiatives across Southeast Asia, where access to affordable AI training remains constrained.
