Ano nga ba ang sepsis?


Ang sepsis ayon kay Dr. Eric Tayag, chief ng Department of Health-National Epidemiology Center (DOH-NEC) ay isang "overwhelming infection" o mga bacteria na umiikot sa dugo sa loob ng katawan ng tao na habang patuloy silang dumarami hanggang sa ma-invade nila ang mga parte ng katawan ng tao kaya’t tinatawag din itong bacterimia.


Sinabi pa ni Dr. Tayag na ang sepsis ay maaaring makuha sa pamamagitan ng community-acquired at hospital-acquired.

Officials of the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) in Pasig City were cleared of responsibility for the death of nine infants from neo-natal sepsis, or blood infection, two weeks ago, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said yesterday.


In a press briefing, Duque also noted similar findings on the cases of six other infants who developed sepsis, but survived.
