Years ago I read some unusual and humorous explanations for auto accidents. The following are just a few that people submitted to an insurance company:

"An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car, and vanished."

"I had been driving my car for 40 years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had the accident."

At this time of year we think about the birth of the Savior. The events of His birth are of vital importance, yet we would do well to reflect also on His earthly ministry, sacrificial death, resurrection, ascension, and promised return. Our redemption would be incomplete if any element were missing. It is fitting, therefore, to share with you a poem by L. W. Beckley titled, The Rest of the Story.

We are about to sing of shepherds

After a round of golf, a British statesman and his friend walked through a field in which cows were grazing. The men were so absorbed in conversation that they forgot to close the gate when they left the fenced area.

Pastor and author Joseph Parker (1830-1902) commented about the closing words of ISAIAH 35:10, "Sorrow and sighing shall flee away." He said, "Looking through the dictionary, you will occasionally come across a word marked ‘obsolete’. The time is coming when the two words sorrow and sighing shall be obsolete. The things which mar life here and now will then belong to the past."

[Summary] => What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? – Matthew 7:9

No loving father would give a stone or a snake to his hungry son if he asked for a piece of bread or a fish. Jesus used the absurdity of that analogy in MATTHEW 7 to underscore the heavenly Father’s readiness to give good things to His children when they ask Him. He wanted them to have complete confidence in the Father’s provision for their spiritual needs.

An acquaintance of mine was "taken in" by a smooth-talking salesman who stopped at his place of business. The man displayed some attractive jewelry that he said he had purchased at a tremendous discount. He was especially proud of some very expensive-looking watches that he had a well-known name on the dials.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say we must have our names on a church membership roll to be saved. That doesn’t mean, however, that joining with other believers in a local church is not vital to our spiritual growth. Gathering regularly for worship and instruction encourages love for others, good works, and mutual accountability (HEBREWS 10:24-25).

I read an interesting article some time ago that compared a Christian without a church to . . . Leslie Dunkin told about a dog he had when he was a boy. His father would occasionally test the dog’s obedience. He would place a tempting piece of meat on the floor and give the command, "No!" The dog, who must have had a strong urge to go for the meat, was placed in a most difficult situation – to obey or disobey his master’s command.
