ZAMBOANGA CITY — The military denied that it attacked Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in the mountains of Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.


Brig. Gen. Reymundo Ferrer, commander of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, said that what the soldiers on foot patrol encountered was a band of lawless elements in Upper Tungawan.


Ferrer said the encounter occurred far from Barangay Datu Tumanggung where there are MILF combatants. — Roel Pareño
