[Title] => Wiretapping 101
[Summary] => The infamous wiretapping CDs, recordings and now even ring tones involving the controversial Garci conversations are making their way around the Philippines and even abroad. Some people think being wiretapped, especially if you are the President of the Philippines or anybody famous for that matter, is amusing until it happens to you. Most people believe that because they use GSM cellphones and the signal is digital, their communications are secure.

The just concluded four-day Asia Clean Energy Forum or ACEF 2026, sponsored by the Asian Development Bank and held at its headquarters in Mandaluyong this week, highlighted the global need to build a sustainable and resilient energy system that should include more renewable energy sources from solar, wind, hydro and geothermal, as the world moves to lessen its dependence on energy sources that may be volatile and affected by conflict, and from traditional but environmentally-polluting sources of crude oil and coal, and the still controversial nuclear energy.

Two recent briefings I attended last week and this week give me hope that despite our current energy problem brought about by the Middle East war started by the United States and Israel, our country will move quickly and finally transition to more sustainable and renewable energy sources that rely on our abundant solar and wind power resources, hopefully ending our overdependence on imported crude oil from the Middle East and on the environmentally destructive use of coal to power our industries.
