                    [Summary] => TACLOBAN CITY — Two soldiers and a woman who had hitched a ride were killed, while five others were seriously wounded when they were ambushed by about 30 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Basey, Samar yesterday morning.


The ambushers were believed to be members of the Southern Samar Front 2 of the NPA’s Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee.

In a statement, the NPA’s Menardo Arce Command said candidates have to secure a "permit to campaign" which will allow them to venture into supposed rebel-controlled areas, especially in the hinterlands. 


Communist guerrillas reportedly control communities at the foot of Mt. Apo and the surrounding districts.
